Why Physical Therapy?

“I grew up dancing competitively, studying many styles, including ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, contemporary, and acro. As I became more serious with my dance training, I found myself sustaining several injuries throughout my dance career. These injuries took me out of the studio and put me in a physical therapy clinic for months at a time. I quickly found that my physical therapists did not understand the demands of my sport, calling my range of motion ‘excessive’ and my desire to dance en pointe ‘unhealthy’. I remember wishing that I had a physical therapist who understood the unique demands behind being an artistic athlete. Today, it is my goal to be the PT for artistic athletes that I wanted when I was an injured student dancer. I strive to not only help artistic athletes rehab from an injury, but also to work with these unique athletes prior to an injury occurring to allow them to train smarter, healthier, and with more self-awareness of their bodies.”
